The Sakurajima volcano in Southern Japan erupted, spewing ash onto nearby Kagoshima City.
Residents of Kagoshima donned face masks to protect themselves while sweeping away the ash.
There are five levels of volcano warnings in Japan:
- Level 1: Volcano is being monitored
- Level 2: Do not approach the crater
- Level 3: Do Not approach the volcano
- Level 4: Prepare to evacuate
- Level 5: Evacuate
Japan has placed the Sakurajima volcano at level three.
The volcano has erupted over 600 times this year and is expected to continue its intermittent eruptions, according to the Meteorological Agency.
