Dec 202011
A lesser known meteor shower, Ursids, peaks the evening of December 21st and 22nd. The Ursids Meteor Shower occurs about a week after the spectacular display of the Geminid Meteor Shower.
Few skywatchers actually view Ursids. Although there have been reports of short outbursts of 100 Ursids per hour, the hourly rate rarely reaches double figures. Couple that with the fact that the Ursids climax near the peak of the Holiday season and you have a meteor shower few backyard astronomers ever observe.
Ursids is typically not visible to skywatchers in the southern hemisphere.
