The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Warning for Indonesia, Philippines, Belau, YAP, Taiwan, Japan, Guam, N. Marianas and Papua New Guinea due to this morning's 7.9 earthquake in the Philippines region.
A Tsunami Watch is in effect for Chuuk, Marcus Island, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Marshall Islands, Wake Islands, Solomon Islands, Russia and Nauru.
It is not know that a tsunami was generated by the earthquake. This warning is based only on the earthquake evaluation. Earthquakes of this size have the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours.
