The National Hurricane Center predicts that Tropical Storm Isaac will become a category 2 hurricaine at landfall between southeastern Louisiana or the Mississppi coast.
At 4:00 CST Isaac was packing 70 mph winds and moving Northwest at 12 mph. Issac is currently located at 26.4 degrees lattitude and 86.2 degrees longitude (approximately 55 miles SSW of Apalachicola, Florida).
The hurricane warning which was effective from the Florida-Alabama border to Destin, Florida has been changed to a tropical storm warning.
A hurrciane warning is now in effect for the areas east of Morgan City, Louisiana to the Alabama-Florida border. This includes 15 Louisiana parishes and the New Orleans metro area and parishes adjacent to Lake Pontchartrain.
A hurricane watch is in effect for from Intracoastal City to Morgan City, Louisiana.
Mandatory Evacuations have been called for Bernard, Plaquemines, and St. Charles Parishes. Crown Point, Barataria, Grand Isle, and Lafitte in Jefferson Parish are also under the Mandatory Evacuation. A voluntary evacuation has been called for New Orleans.
Dangerous surf and rip current conditions will continue to affect the Florida coastline and the Florida Keys during the next day or so.
