The Great New Zealand Shakeout is scheduled for 9.26am on September 26, 2012. Some New Zealanders will choose – and some will have the choice made for them by mothers, teachers or bosses – to take part in a nationwide earthquake drill.
The “Shakeout”, as it’s called, is an American initiative. People nationwide are encouraged to participate in the earthquake drill to learn how to protect themselves when an earthquake hits. This is also an opportunity for households and businesses to review their emergency plans and survival kits.
