NASA is asking for all skywatchers to count the number of meteors they see in the night sky from August 11th through August 13th during the Perseid Meteor Shower.

The number of shooting stars is valuable to NASA.  Meteor numbers by amateur skywatchers can be used by NASA's Meteoroid Environmental Office to study and model the Perseid debris stream.

An app is available for Android and IPhones to help amateur skywatches count meteors in a scientific way and report the results.  It is called the Meteor Counter and is available for free in the Android Marketplace and Apple's App Store.
