The U.S. Geological Survey reported a shallow 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck nine miles from Nixon, Nevada Wednesday afternoon. The temblor occurred at 12:51 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 6.2 miles.
The earthquake was upgraded from a previous report with an initial magnitude of 3.5.
The epicenter was 11 miles from Wadsworth, Nevada., 14 miles from Spanish Springs, Nevada., 24 miles from Reno and 135 miles from Sacramento.
